Who am I? I’m Tom Vanderwell, the Editor and Director of The Vulnerable Project.
Why did I start this? Because after 12 years in the adoption world and 6 years on the board of an orphanage and almost 4 years full time on the orphanage staff, I had a growing realization that hit me like a ton of bricks.
Not a proverbial ton. An actual ton.
Realization? Many people, both on staff at organizations and “at home” want to help but don’t have a solid knowledge of what’s best and what really can make a difference.
I don’t either.
No one in their right mind would say they know all of the answers. But I started The Vulnerable Project to bring to you a fresh perspective, some insider knowledge and hopefully some very solid conversations about how we can make a difference.
So what else is there to know about me? In 2015, I’ll be celebrating 30 years of being married to my high school sweetheart. We have 5 kids – three vanilla and two chocolate ones. The chocolate ones came home from Haiti in 2004 at the ages of 2 and 3.
I spent over 20 years as a banker and the last number of years have been fighting for something much more worthwhile.
